September 10, 2025 (St. Paul, MN) — On Wednesday, September 17, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., attorneys from across Minnesota will gather on the front steps of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul to mark Constitution Day. The event is hosted by the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA), and the Ramsey County Bar Association (RCBA). Other bar associations and legal groups across the country are holding similar celebrations to mark the day.
The program will feature remarks from the presidents of the MSBA, HCBA, and RCBA, and retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justices G. Barry Anderson and David Lillehaug, who will speak to the continuing importance of the Constitution in today’s legal and civic life. During the event, attorneys will have a chance to sign a statement of support to affirm their commitment to uphold the Rule of Law and the Constitution.
Each year, Constitution Day celebrates the signing date of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. For attorneys, it is also a time to reaffirm their professional duty to defend the Constitution, protect constitutional rights, ensure due process, and oppose actions that undermine it.
“Constitution Day is more than just a history lesson,” said Cheryl Dalby, the CEO of the MSBA, HCBA, and RCBA. “Today is a reminder that lawyers play a vital role in ensuring that the promises of the Constitution remain alive and accessible to all.”
The event is free and open to attorneys and members of the public, gathering to honor the enduring importance of the U.S. Constitution.
