NOTE: The Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA), and Ramsey County Bar Association (RCBA) are voluntary bar associations. The associations do not handle attorney licensing, regulation, or discipline matters. In Minnesota, those functions are managed by the state courts.

  • For information on attorney licensing, regulation or individual attorney status, contact the Office of Lawyer Registration: https://www.lro.mn.gov
  • For questions regarding attorney ethics, complaints, or disciplinary actions, contact the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility: https://lprb.mncourts.gov

MSBA, HCBA, and RCBA may issue independent or shared public statements on issues affecting the legal profession, Minnesota courts, or access to justice. These are made at the discretion of:

  • Each association’s elected bar president or their designated spokesperson(s)
  • MSBA Board of Governors and/or Assembly
  • HCBA Board of Directors
  • RCBA Board of Directors

Statements will be shared with media outlets and posted on the respective association websites:

Please note:
Bar association staff and members are not spokespersons for the MSBA, HCBA, or RCBA unless designated by bar leadership. If MSBA members provide quotes or commentary to media, they are speaking as individuals and not on behalf of the associations—unless specified in their capacity as a current bar president.

For questions about MSBA/HCBA/RCBA policy positions or legislative initiatives, contact:

Communications staff can often help connect journalists with MSBA, HCBA, or RCBA members who are willing to speak generally about how the legal system works or provide background on specific legal topics. However, staff generally do not identify sources for commentary on breaking news or allegations involving specific attorneys. To request help identifying a legal expert for background or commentary on a particular legal area, contact:

The three Minnesota law schools often serve as excellent sources for comment on case law, legal history, or broader legal issues. We encourage reporters to reach out to their faculty when looking for academic or public-facing legal analysis.
