Statement from the HCBA President

As president of the Hennepin County Bar Association, an organization grounded in respect for due process and the rule of law, I am shocked and dismayed at the actions of federal agents from ICE and US Customs and Border Patrol in Minneapolis. Actions that undermine due process and create widespread fear in the community are inconsistent with core principles of fairness, dignity, and the rule of law.
 
The events of yesterday have caused real fear and uncertainty for individuals, families, and entire communities. When people are made to feel unsafe in their daily lives or afraid to engage with their community, the harm extends far beyond those immediately targeted.
 
I am particularly concerned by actions that appear to bypass core constitutional principles and erode trust in legal institutions. The HCBA stands with our community. The law must be administered with transparency, fairness, and humanity.
