For over 30 years, the Civil Litigation Section’s annual Advocate Award has recognized someone who has significantly improved the civil litigation system in Minnesota.

This year’s Advocate Award will be presented to Judge Edward "Ned" Wahl to recognize his years of dedication to Minnesota’s justice system. Before his 2012 appointment to the bench, Judge Wahl was a civil litigator at Faegre and Oppenheimer and served on the Judiciary Committee to ensure the integrity of judicial appointments.

As a judge, he has stayed involved in the Civil Litigation Section Council, including a year serving as president, and served on the MSBA Board of Governors. He has been involved in many initiatives to improve Minnesota’s civil court system, including chairing the Civil Jury Instruction Committee and leading efforts to enable remote civil trials to continue during the pandemic. He also teaches at St. Thomas School of Law, instructs at the National Judicial College, and recently educated Minnesota’s district court judges on election law this fall, weeks before the November 2024 election.

Judge Wahl will be presented with the Advocate Award at this year’s Civil Litigation Annual Dinner on April 24, 2025. Join the Civil Litigation Section in celebrating Judge Wahl’s achievements.
