Pro bono spotlight: Caryn Boisen

Caryn Boisen, a partner with Larson King in St. Paul, is a long-time supporter of access to justice and pro bono service in Minnesota. Her law practice focuses on the areas of construction, products liability, commercial litigation, and business litigation.

Boisen has long volunteered with the Tubman Safety Project, providing pro bono legal assistance to victims of domestic violence who are seeking orders for protection and harassment restraining orders. Her dedication earned her the Tubman Safety Project Attorney of the Year award.

This spring, Boisen was awarded the Ramsey County Bar Association’s Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award for her pro bono work and longstanding commitment to the legal services community. “As attorneys, we are in a unique position to help people when they are at their most vulnerable,” she explained. “By providing pro bono legal services, we can help address systemic inequalities and drive social change.”

Boisen serves on the MSBA’s Access to Justice Committee as co-chair of the Pro Bono Council. She is driven to serve in this role because “access to justice helps ensure that people can protect their rights, seek legal assistance, and receive fair treatment under the law, regardless of their financial condition or personal situation.”

Boisen is a past president of the Ramsey County Bar Association and a past member of the Minnesota State Bar Association Board of Governors. In addition to her formal leadership roles, she has served as a mentor to many newer attorneys, especially women entering the male-dominated field of construction law.
