The MSBA has joined the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Coalition in support of educational debt relief for public service professionals.

PSLF is a federal loan forgiveness program aimed at non-profit or government professionals, including attorneys. If participants work in a full-time public service position for 10 years while making ongoing monthly student loan repayments, they can earn forgiveness on their remaining federal loan balance.

The PSLF Coalition is composed of more than 100 nonprofit and public service organizations allied to ensure that the PSLF program is accessible and that student loan forgiveness is achievable.

Government attorneys, legal aid attorneys, prosecutors and public defenders, and other non-profit attorneys may all be eligible for PSLF and many depend on the program to remain in public service work.

PSLF plays a critical role in ensuring access to justice in Minnesota by allowing government and non-profit lawyers to continue in those roles despite lower salaries than the private sector. By joining the PSLF Coalition, the MSBA reaffirms our unwavering support of PSLF and public service work.
