The area of mental health law is a burgeoning practice area that encompasses both civil and criminal law. To accommodate practitioners in this area of the law, as well as the clients they serve, the bar associations recently added a new Mental Health Law Section. This Section is dedicated to serving the legal needs of clients and individuals dealing with mental health challenges and substance use disorder, along with their families and support systems. In order to achieve this, practitioners must focus on the complex legal needs of this population through a multidisciplinary lens; covering areas like civil commitment, guardianship, vulnerable adult protection, special education, professional license defense, and compliance for mental health organizations.
Join this roundtable conversation, led by two seasoned practitioners and a judge, for fruitful conversation that will provide insights into the various resources available throughout the metro and in Greater Minnesota. This session hopes to cultivate additional, more specific topics that can be covered in future programs by various branches of the support system needed for these clients.
