2026 Law Day Event

Join Minnesota’s legal community on May 1 for a nationwide stand in support of the Rule of Law.

Law Day is a moment that matters. This is our annual opportunity to come together, stand together, and show the strength and commitment of the legal profession in support of the Rule of Law.  

Retake the Oath

On May 1, attorneys across the country will gather to retake their oath. When we were admitted to the Minnesota bar, we took an oath to support the Constitution and uphold the principles of justice, due process, and the rule of law
 
Retaking the oath again this year is a public reaffirmation of that commitment and of our role as guardians of judicial independence and the rule of law.

What is Law Day? 

Law Day, held annually on May 1, is a national day set aside to celebrate the Rule of Law. Law Day provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share.

Protecting the Rule of Law Advances the American Dream: The ABA’s Law Day theme for 2026 is “The Rule of Law and the American Dream”. The principles of judicial independence and civil liberty – cornerstones of American democracy – are facing unprecedented challenges across the country. The Rule of Law requires that government and individuals alike are accountable to fair, public, and evenly enforced laws. It safeguards the rights that allow individuals to pursue their own version of the American Dream. A strong Rule of Law supports political liberty, social equality, stable markets, worker protections, and sustainable economic growth—foundations of individual and national prosperity. As we look forward to celebrating America 250, we invite you to revisit what the Constitution stands for. 

Who should attend? 

Your presence matters and this event is FREE for everyone, is open for non-members of the MSBA as well as the public. When lawyers, judges, and community members stand together, we send a powerful message: the rule of law must be protected.

Getting there | Google Map Directions

By Metro Light Rail: The Government Plaza Station is a stop on both the Blue Line and the Green Line. From that stop, it's a 4-minute walk to the event.

Parking: There are many lots nearby within a couple of blocks. Hennepin County Gov't Center Ramp will likely be full at this time of day.
