Representing Family Farmers in Financial Disputes CLE Series

Financial credit is the lifeblood of farming. In general, many farmers borrow money in the spring to plant, tend, and harvest their crops. Farmers plan to repay their creditors toward the end of the year when they have received payments for their products. But, serious price, production, weather, pest, and other difficulties often occur and ultimately become credit problems, resulting in disputes between farmers and their lenders. 

For years, many farmers have been unable to find legal representation in their rural communities to help them in disputes with their well-represented lenders. Lawyers can serve rural communities and level the playing field for the farmers who grow our food by representing such farmers. 

The nonprofit law firm Farmers’ Legal Action Group (FLAG), along with the Agricultural and Rural Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association, are offering a four-part CLE series to give attorneys the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to represent farmers in financial disputes with lenders.
