Parole is an exercise of discretionary from the immigration authorities under INA 212(d)(5)(A) to allow certain noncitizen “applicants for admission” to be present in the United States on a temporary basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.  On June 18, 2024, DHS expanded parole in place to “keeping families together” which allows for certain noncitizen spouses and noncitizen stepchildren of U.S. citizens to request parole in place.
