Summary

Attorneys Emily Cooper and Adam Spees of Cooper Law, LLC will provide an in-depth exploration of the intersection between Social Security Disability (SSDI and SSI) benefits and family law cases involving divorce and custody. The presentation will address critical issues such as the division of disability benefits in marital estates, the impact of SSDI and SSI on child support and spousal maintenance, and the allocation of derivative benefits for children. It will also examine how overpayments and back pay affect financial obligations, as well as the unique challenges of child support for disabled children turning 18. Practical guidance will be offered on identifying and interpreting key Social Security documents to strengthen case strategies. This session is designed to equip attorneys with the tools to navigate these complex cases effectively and advocate for equitable outcomes.
