The Rule of Law is essential to the protection of rights and the even enforcement of the law in all aspects of American life. It promotes consistency for individuals and businesses regulated by the government, protects workers from discrimination, fosters stability in contracts and the marketplace, and requires that all persons are treated equally in the courts. In turn, the stabilizing force of the Rule of Law supports the American Dream – the idea that each of us can pursue a better life for ourselves and our families. The Rule of Law is not self-enacting and those of us in the legal system play a role in supporting these principles.
