It is an obligation borne from the vow we take as lawyers to “support the Constitution of the United States and that of the state of Minnesota[.]” We, as lawyers, must resist the pull of partisan camps when it comes to upholding the rule of law, because the rule of law is the very foundation of our profession and our society."
HCBA President Jessica Klander reflects on recent federal immigration enforcement actions, and the essential, nonpartisan role lawyers play in upholding constitutional protections, maintaining trust in the legal system, and supporting their communities during times of uncertainty.
Members have been reaching out to the bar associations this week looking for information to support Minnesota communities. The MSBA has shared a list of ways to engage, including volunteering your time, supporting organizations that uphold the rule of law, sharing resources about legal rights, and participating in programs that bring people together.
This week, the Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, and Ramsey County Bar Association, along with five other bar associations, have filed an amicus brief in support of the rule of law and access to justice in a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
